Noah is a figure from the Bible who is best known for his ark and saving animals from the great flood. What is not as well known is that Noah also sent out birds to see if the flood waters had receded. The story goes that he sent out a raven first, but it just kept flying around looking for food and never came back.
Next, he sent out a dove which came back with an olive branch in its beak, signaling that there was dry land nearby.
Noah was instructed by God to take two of every kind of animal onto the Ark. But how many birds did Noah send out from the Ark?
The answer may surprise you – according to Genesis 8:20, Noah sent out a total of seven pairs of birds!
This means that 14 birds left the safety of the Ark once the floodwaters had receded.
It’s interesting to note that Noah didn’t release all the animals at once. First, he released a Raven and then later he released a Dove.
After 40 days had passed, he finally released all the other animals in pairs.
So why did Noah only release seven pairs of birds? It’s possible that there were simply less bird species back then.
Or it could be that birds are able to fly and therefore don’t need as much space as other animals.
Whatever the reason, we know that God was with Noah and protected him and his family throughout their time on the Ark. And thanks to Noah’s obedience, we can enjoy watching birds today!
– How Many Birds Did Noah Send Out
Noah is said to have released a total of eight birds from the Ark during the course of the Flood story. The first was a raven, sent out after seven days on the Ark had passed. The second was a dove, which was sent out three months later.
The third time Noah sent out a dove was after another six months had passed. Finally, he released a Dove one last time, and it returned with an olive branch in its beak, signifying that the waters had receded and there was land once again available for life.
Conclusion
In the Bible, Noah is instructed by God to build an ark and fill it with two of every kind of animal on Earth. When the floodwaters came, Noah and his family were safe inside the ark. But what happened to all the animals?
According to one interpretation of Genesis 8:15-19, when the waters began to recede, Noah sent out a raven and then a dove to see if it was safe to leave the ark. The raven never returned, but the dove came back with an olive branch, indicating that there was dry land nearby. Noah then released all the animals from the ark.
